Neroli essential oil is made from a unique tree that is the origin of three types of essential oils: bitter orange oil from the peel of the fruit, petitgrain from the leaves, and neroli from the delicate white blossoms. Much like rose oil, thousands of petals are required to make neroli oil, but the proven benefits and uses of neroli essential oil may make it worth the price.

Can I use Neroli oil on my face?
Neroli has been used as a skincare product since before it was introduced to the Princess of Nerola by traders returning to Europe. It is known to be antibacterial, making it ideal for controlling the bacterial growth that happens within clogged pores on the face and body. Cleansing without overdrying, neroli may assist in oil control. It also prevents the breakdown of collagen peptides, the substance that makes skin elastic and may repair oxidative damage from free radicals. This damage generally shows up in the form of wrinkles and spots on the hands and face. (1)
You may wonder what does neroli smell like, especially if you are considering using it on your body. It has a pleasant citrus scent, almost like orange or lemon which is certainly more appealing than the bitter fruit of the tree it is made from. Use neroli with caution if you plan to go outside immediately. Like many citrus-based oils, it can cause photosensitivity, causing your skin to burn easily.

My Favorite Use Of Neroli Essential Oil
Depression has been an almost constant companion of mine, coming with its own sets of lows and lowers. While I am under the care of a physician to help manage the worst of the symptoms, I also supplement with essential oils to not only improve my mood but also increase my focus and energy.
Neroli is one of my favorites, if just for the citrus scent. Citrus always reminds of me of early mornings as a kid, when we would have orange juice for breakfast. Now, neroli is expensive but worth using on the worst of days, when it is nearly impossible to even want to drag myself from the bed, never mind feed my children and get them ready for the day.
I use a roll-on with orange, lemon, and neroli on the worst days, applying it to my wrists and neck. I generally get some stares when people catch me sniffing my wrists, but the mood boost is too good to mind.
I like neroli with lavender and valerian after a particularly stressful day, just before bed. Sometimes, I don’t make it out of the comfy chair before I’m relaxing into sleep right there. My husband misses me in the bedroom, but I’m too stress-free to be bothered.
